The Louisiana EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) Community exists to:
1. Support one another as EFT practitioners in the on-going learning and refinement of EFT skills, and
2. Reach the Louisiana mental health community through ongoing EFT learning opportunities about this evidence-based approach that helps heal and repair relationships.
3. Provide support for clinicians who assist individuals, couples and families in healthier, healing relationships.
Our vision and mission are possible through our clients' trust and commitment to strengthening and healing. We acknowledge with deep appreciation the crucial roles of the Porter Cason Institute for their support and sponsorship of EFT events in Louisiana.
We are proud to say that we have put our passion and mission into action. With the support of our trainers and supervisors, we have over 120 counselors who will have completed the externship and 60 counselors who have competed core skills. Seven of our members are certified through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. We now have three certified supervisors practicing in the state of Louisiana: Tanya Radecker, PhD, RN, LPC-S, NCC, Michelle Louviere, LMFT, and Steve Bordelon, LCSW
Through the commitment and guidance of Parker Sternbergh, LCSW, with the Porter Cason Institute, EFT was brought to Louisiana in March of 2013. EFT trainer George Faller, LMFT, Karen Giunta, LMFT, and Dr. Jodi Ames-Frankel inspired and supervised the first groups of Louisiana EFT trainees. Louisiana's first ICEEFT EFT certified therapist was Dr. Dee Adams. From 2013 to 2015 EFT continued to grow in Louisiana and we eventually created a Steering Committee of dedicated practitioners that generously gave of their time and finances to spread EFT across the state. Dr. Tanya Radecker became the first ICEEFT EFT certified supervisor allowing us to transition to an official ICEEFT Affiliated EFT Community in 2015. We are grateful to the Porter Cason Institute, Dr. Sue Johnson and all of the EFT trainers who have shared their knowledge and skills in helping our community grow.
The Louisiana EFT Community firmly stands with ICEEFT and other EFT Centers/ Communities against countless, unspeakable racism across our country and in our own local communities. We feel great anger and grief over the ongoing injustice and discrimination recently seen in George’s Floyd’s death and routinely seen in countless other deaths and discriminatory acts without acknowledgement. We recognize that safety for our Black colleagues and the Black community requires us to identify and speak against systemic oppression in the United States if we are to support the essential value of human life and human connection.
The Louisiana EFT Community is committed to its mission of training and supporting clinicians as they help individuals, couples and families move towards healthier, healing relationships. We see all actions of violence, hatred and white supremacy as a threat to our mission. As a community, we are working to help create a safe world where every person can embrace their universal human attachment needs without fear of persecution or marginalization. We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive organization that promotes the same in the lives of our members and our clients.
